Union for Lao Nation on Vietnam Human Rights Day May 11, 2011

We are gathered here together in the US Senate today, to celebrate the Seventeenth Annual Commemoration of Vietnam Human Rights Day, and to commemorate the legacy of our fellow democracy advocates for Vietnamese people and all oppressive citizens of the world. It’s also an opportunity to congratulate their efforts and to remind us that much work remains to be done to uphold the human dignity.

WASHINGTON — Days after Facebook and Twitter added fuel to a revolt in Egypt, the Obama administration on Tuesday announced a new policy on Internet freedom, intended to help people get around barriers in cyberspace while making it harder for autocratic governments to use the same technology to repress dissent.
