The Organizing Committee for Vietnam Human Rights Day
The 15th Annual Commemoration of Vietnam Human Rights Day May 11, 2009
On behalf of the Organizing Committee, we respectfully request your participation in the Fifteenth Commemoration of Vietnam Human Rights Day on Monday, May 11, 2009 in the Russell Senate Office Building, Room 325 from 1:00 – 4:30 P.M. A reception will follow from 4:30 – 6:00 P.M.
We will be marking the anniversary of the House-Senate Joint Resolution SJ-168 designating May 11, 1994, as Vietnam Human Rights Day, which was subsequently signed into Public Law 103-258 on May 25, 1994. This year, the event is sponsored by Senator James Webb, and co-sponsored by a group of senators and Congressmen from both parties. The theme for this year is "The Impact of Global Economic Crisis on Civil Society and Human Rights." There will be a distinguished panel for a forum discussion on this topic as the focus of the event. The event will be fully covered by the media.
We have invited members of Congress, representatives of the White House, State Department, Department of Commerce, World Bank, USAID, AFL-CIO, NED, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, Robert F. Kennedy Foundation, Freedom House, Reporters without Borders, Freedom Now, Human Rights First, Brookings Institution, Center for Strategic and International Studies, US Institute of Peace, Heritage Foundation, Hudson Institute, etc... The expected audience will consist of dignitaries, diplomats, US officials and military members, international and US NGOs, and Asian delegations coming from across the US, with some coming from Canada, Europe, Asia, and Australia.
We deeply appreciate if you could join us and make your important statement on human rights.
To RSVP or if you should have any questions please contact Nathalie Nguyen at (703) 606-6444.
